METROPOLIS COMICS STATIONERY

WHY REDESIGN METROPOLIS COMICS?
Metropolis Comics in Bellflower, CA was the first ever comic book shop I went to when I started reading them. Since, this store is partly responsible for my love of comics, I decided to give their logo a redesign.
FINDING THE RIGHT INSPIRATION
For this project, I focused on the imagery of the city, instead of Superman, and how that relates to comics. Skyscrapers and larger than life characters are confined to panels, but readers still feel immersed. Secondly, I focused on the layout and typography of comic book panels.
THINKING OUTSIDE OF THE PANEL
Comic books are immersive and tell stories about characters that we've grown to love. What they represent goes beyond the panel and is apparent in our everyday lives.
-
The skyscrapers shoot off of the page and this is further emphasized by "METROPOLIS" in bold.
-
The skyscrapers form the letter "M" for Metropolis.
-
Black outlines reinforce the idea of these elements coming from a comic book.
